There is a constant in the video game industry: The search for the best video games. Analyzes that deal with all aspects of each video game are published daily and are finally scored. Although these figures cannot always be matched with the purely objective, they do offer a more or less precise guide at the time of buying. That’s why at PureGaming we want to make a Top 10 best video games (not necessarily exclusive) from Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch according to Metacritic, a leading video game rating outlet.
In this first publication we will see what video games make up in Top 10 Xbox One according to Metacritic. On Tuesdays of the next few weeks we will see those of PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
10. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Rating: 91
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the third part of a trilogy based on the works of Andrzej Sapkowski. The launch of The Witcher 3 came as a surprise to the vast majority of the video game industry, which quickly became a (almost) unanimous success. The grades of all the media rarely fell below 9 and even abounded 10. In Metacritic gave it a 91, being the tenth highest rated video game on Xbox One.
Such was the success of the video game that it was several years in a row winning different awards, including Best Video Game of the Year in 2015. Andrzej Sapkowski’s work was also revalued and Netflix is creating a series based on these works, which has Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) as Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist.
9. Divinity Original Sin II – Rating: 92
Divinity: Original Sin II is another open world video game that occupies this Top. If there is something that has characterized this generation in quality games, it is the open worlds and the stories that leave room for exploration. In the case of Divinity: Original Sin II there is even freedom in a non-linear gaming experience.
The campaign of this video game has great weight, but its open world and competitive and cooperative game modes they offer variety and freedom to the player. We are facing a very complete video game. In Metacritic was given a well deserved 92.
8. What Remains of Edith Finch – Rating: 92
At PureGaming we love to see variety in Tops. This one we are building could not have started better. From 10th place held by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and 9th by Divinity: Original Sin II, we move to 8th occupied by What Remains of Edith Finch. This video game is very close to being a novel. It is a purely narrative title and it will make us walk through its settings while it tells us a story. As we go we will have to perform puzzles and interact with the medium to advance.
The experience is in the first person and we could classify it as an exploration video game. The exploration is motivated by the revelation of more aspects about the story. Metracritic scored it with a 92 and is not for less. If you have not played it and you want a relaxing afternoon, you already have a video game.
7. Forza Horizon 4 – Rating: 92
If we talk about video games on Xbox One, ignore Forza Horizon 4 it would be a mistake from which we could never recover. At PureGaming we love Forza Horizon 4. We already brought you our analysis of the base video game and more recently we also analyze the expansion Lego Speed Champions. This is one of the best arcade driving video games we’ve seen so far. It also has a huge number of vehicles, so many that it is likely that many of us will not even drive them.
Metacritic gave it a 92 and we confirm that this note is close to the reality of the video game. Forza Horizon 4 continues to fascinate many gamers and we already dream of how much a Forza on the Xbox Scarlett could amaze us. We don’t even want to think about it… If you are looking for a live, entertaining video game with fun driving, Forza Horizon 4 is your video game.

6. Inside – Rating: 93
Platform video games may have gained much more presence and strength thanks to consoles like the Nintendo Switch. However, on Xbox One and Ps4 there are still people who bet on this type of video game. The clear example is Inside on Xbox One. In this video game we take the role of a boy who explores a dark world.
The video game has a simple aesthetic and with a very particular beauty, and an interpretation that evolves as we advance in our adventure. As we move through the scenarios we will have to solve different puzzles that will test our ability to analyze the environment and creativity, something that video games increasingly lose. In Metacritic give it a 93, increasing the status of platform video games.
5. Resident Evil 2 Remake – Rating: 93

Resident Evil 2 Remake It’s one of those second parts that went well. This remake proved that bringing classics back to our old days isn’t always a bad idea. On this occasion the players who were carried away by nostalgia came across a product that Metacritic scored 93.
In this remake we return to Raccoon city with the characters of Leon Kennedy and Claire redfield, being able to play their stories in different games. The remake turned out to be faithful to the original game, but with much better graphics and changes in some mechanics and the interface.

4. Celeste – Rating: 94
Did you think Inside would be the only platform video game on the list? Error! Light blue is a video game that was able to conquer the public thanks to its narrative depth and all its innovations. So much so that it was awarded for best independent game and best impact game in past The Game Awards, and was nominated for other awards.
Celeste puts us in the shoes of Madelaine, a girl who must overcome different puzzles and scenarios full of dangers. The video game focuses on offering innovative and fun mechanics, without forgetting some nods to great classics of the platform genre. Metacritic scores it with a 94 and without a doubt it is an indispensable title for lovers of the genre.
3. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – Rating: 95
This is probably the most controversial video game on the list. Not everyone in the public could agree with the position of Metal Gear Solid V in this list or with the note offered by Metacritic, a 95. Hideo Kojima’s video game is the latest installment in the Metal Gears Solid saga. Tactical espionage, incursions into enemy bases and a dose of supernatural terror is what awaits us in our adventure as Solid Snake.
We are facing a video game superior technically, but we can note the exact moment when Kojima was forced to leave the project. A great success that for most fans will always be half finished.

2. Grand Theft Auto V – Rating: 97
We entered the section of the very heavy heavyweights. What to say about GTA V that we don’t already know? We are probably before one of the best video games late generation past and current. No matter how many years go by GTA V is still preserved as fresh and fun as in the first month of life. GTA V’s story mode swept through the early days, but it was with the arrival of Online mode that the real boom hit.
Since the launch of online mode, GTA V has not stopped receiving content. No wonder Metracritic gave it a 97, bordering on excellence.
1. Red Dead Redemption 2 – Rating: 97
Rockstar Games leads this Top indisputably. Tied with Grand Theft Auto V is the recent Red Dead Redemption 2. Same formula, different setting. Rockstar’s western is certainly among the best video games of the current generation. Xbox and Ps4 users have been able to enjoy this game, while rumors about its arrival on PC continue to happen. In this case, the campaign is the one that has carried all the weight of the good reviews.
The Red Dead Redemption 2 online came later and it was not a boom like GTA V’s, but Rockstar treats it just as well as GTA V. In fact, while we made this Top, the official trailer of its expansion has been published Legendary Bounties. In addition, they recently also included professions and more content for online.
Metacritic scored it a 97 and in PureGaming we gave it a 9.7, the equivalent of the first note. Without a doubt we are facing the best game of this Top, of the next ones we make and of the current generation.
