OnePlus 8 is the first phone to run Fortnite at 90fps

While smartphones with higher refresh rates have been around for a while, their adoption and optimization for games has still been a bit uneven.

But now, The OnePlus 8 has fully utilized its faster screen as the smartphone is the first to run Fortnite at 90fps.

Fortnite is one of the most popular video games in the world right now. It’s a different and rather cartoonish take on the extremely successful genre Battle Royale and compete with the likes of PUBG. Since the games are intense multiplayer battles, the higher refresh rates can give users a slight edge in their fights.

For those unaware, a higher refresh rate also translates to reduced input lag, which means your physical actions are reflected faster on the screen.. The difference is in mere milliseconds, but in a first-person shooter title, that’s all that matters.

Unfortunately, even though OnePlus 8 includes Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 SoC alongside Adreno 650 GPU, the game can only run at 90fps when graphics settings are set to “low”. While it loses visual fidelity, the improved performance actually makes up for that loss in detail. So if you like Fortnite and mobile games, the smartphone and the game title really mix well.
